State Volleyball Poll
October 5, 2008

Welcome ot the Fall 2008 volleyball season to coaches, fans, players, officials and aficionados. This is the first poll which is limited to just a top ten in each classification. The polls are not an official ranking, that is handled on the court in November. This poll is open to comments, criticisms and input from all. The poll is an attempt to stimulate conversation about the sport and is edited to promote the participants, coaches, schools and officials. Please feel me to email me as often as you would like on input. The pre-season poll is top ten, after one week the poll is expanded to top 15 then initially to a top 25 per classification.
Thanks and looking forward to a great season

Comments: They are all monsters. Bushland plays the pride of West Texas 4A and 5A and wins often, White Oak, Hallettsville, Centerville and Rogers do not have eight losses, combined. Class 2A had a very deep talent pool.

Comments: Wimberley lost their second district match in 12 years, to Burnet, but Liberty Hill knocked off Burnet to the Texans are tied for first. Lovejoy is whacking all comers while The Goats are playing well and both Bellville and Prosper are making post-season notice.

Conference 4A

1.

Hereford

2.

Hutto

3.

Dallas Highland Park

4.

Canyon Randall

5.

Brenham

6.

Richardson Pearce

16.

Granbury

17.

New Braufels Canyon

18.

El Paso Burges

19.

Alamo Heights

20.

Hendrickson

Comments: Hereford beat Dumas and those two plus Randall are the toughest three teams in one district in all of 4A. Highland Park is extremely good and Jessica O'Shoney of Hutto may be the most completed 4A player in the state but don't miss Brenham, Pearce, Red Oak or Flour Bluff, highly competitive 4A.

Conference 5A

1.

San Antonio O'Connor

2.

San Antonio Reagan

3.

Amarillo

4.

Houston Clear Creek

5.

San Antonio Churchill

6.

Lake Highlands

7.

8.

15.

The Woodlands

16.

Dickinson

17.

Southlake Carroll

18.

Katy

19.

Smithson Valley

20.

Plano West

Comments: I don't know. Reagan beats Churchill but I only move the Rattlers to second because O'Connor is so good, I can only say that the Region IV tournament is going to be wild as you have to add in Westlake. Amarillo and Clear Creek look great while Lake Highlands, Round Rock and Westwood are on a collision course. Don't under estimate Cypress Woods, Coppell or Pearland.
